Further annual targets announced

Next set of draft climate change targets published leading the way to 2050

The Scottish Government has today (Monday) published its next batch of annual emissions reduction targets.

The draft Order, laid in parliament today, will set targets for 2023-2027, building on the world-leading Climate Change (Scotland) Act and its targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42 per cent by 2020, and 80 per cent by 2050.

The targets in the draft order laid today will cover the period 2023-2027:

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Stewart Stevenson said:

"These proposed targets extend and strengthen the pathway to meeting Scotland’s Climate Change aspirations. This sends a clear signal about the Scottish Government’s long-term commitment to the low carbon agenda.

“Our draft targets are challenging but achieving them will see Scotland moving closer to becoming a low carbon economy and more resilient to deal with commodity and energy price volatility. It will also present opportunities to benefit from greater energy and resource efficiency and scope to create skilled jobs, exploiting Scotland’s expertise in research, development and manufacturing.”
