Following representations from the Scottish Government, a scheme will be operated by Kent Police to prioritise fresh produce caught up in the delays at Calais.

Commenting, Banffshire and Buchan Coast SNP MSP Stewart Stevenson said:

“This is very welcome progress which will be a real boost to seafood exporters – and I am very pleased that the Scottish Government’s representations on the issue have been heeded.

“Seafood exporters in Scotland have seen their orders fall by as much as 80 per cent in recent weeks as a result of this disruption – and with the important of the sector to the Scottish economy, it’s vital that the UK Government continues to take the action needed to find a long-term solution to the problem, and to solve the appalling humanitarian situation which is at the heart of this situation.”
